S1/E12: #Finding Your Tribe - Energy Givers and Energy Takers in a Cultural Context with Dr. Nico Rose

Show notes

Did you know that energy can travel from one person to another? Have you ever felt completely energized and inspired after spending time with a particular person? On the other hand, have you ever felt completely drained after interacting with someone? This is nothing but you experiencing that there are two types of people: Energy Givers and Energy Takers. Energy Givers are people that radiate positive energy and leave you feeling recharged and inspired. They uplift your spirits and make you feel good about yourself and the world around you. And then you’ve got Energy Takers – people that drain your energy and leave you feeling depleted and exhausted. In this episode, Frauke and Marie-Christine are exploring why some people lift others up and some people leave us physically and emotionally drained.

Episode Highlights

(00:03:38) Culture Chat: Frauke and Marie-Christine welcome Dr. Nico Rose, an organizational psychologist, to discuss the concept of relational energy on the organizational as well as the individual level. Relational energy refers to the positive feeling and sense of increased resourcefulness experienced as a direct result of an interaction with someone else. Some people seem to increase our energy, positivity and sense of resourcefulness whilst others either have no impact or drain our energy. Do ask yourself, what kind of energy are you giving out into the world? And bear in mind that people whom you deem as energy takers might not necessarily be bad persons – they are just not people that you vibe well with.

  • “Everything in the universe may be described in terms of energy: Galaxies, stars, molecules, and atoms may be regarded as organizations of energy. Living organisms may be looked upon as engines which operate by means of energy derived directly or indirectly from the sun. Cultures of mankind may be regarded as a form or organization of energy. And behavior may be treated as a manifestation of energy.
